🇬🇧 My way to English
20/01/2021 - Busuu B1 - lesson 32
13/01/2021 - Duolingo level 23
November 2020 - Golden tree on Duolingo
September 2020 - A mock test on Global Exam estimated my English level as C1 (only for grammar, listening and reading).
I took English as my minor at uni, but I'm really disappointed by the lessons we have… So I searched a lot of resources online, and finally found Busuu. Their lessons structure my study plan.
I started speaking English with my boyfriend, so I use the language everyday and in lockdown I even use it way more than I use French. everything on my computer is in English, and even some of my personal notes end being in English because I think in the language.
2020 - 2021
I took a mandatory test at uni and validated a B1 level. This result exempted me from English lessons, which was a bit disappointing to me, so I knew I wanted to learn English by myself. I started using biology and anatomy resources in English, then psychology ressources.
2018 - First common year for medical studies
My 18 years birthday present was a two weeks stay in England (near to Cambridge and Peterborough), in an adorable family I still have contact with. I had classes in the morning, and more entertaining activities in the evening. For the first time, I though in English : it became a language in my mind 🌳
Summer 2016
My English teacher's nickname : The Dragon. She told me that I should go back to primary school, and one of my friends left her classes. This friend and another this year read all my tasks and explained me my mistakes, and at the same time they made me realize that I needed to learn English away from school.
2015-2016 - last year of high school
I went to Wales 🏴 with my family for holidays, it was the first time I actually used English in real life. I went to shops by my own, and tried to make contacts with people there. When I went back to school, I realized that I felt a little bit more confident talking, and I started being more active in classes.
March 2015
It was probably the most boring summer of my life, I missed a lot the entertainment I had at high school with lessons and friends, and couldn't match with my family members. I discovered Duolingo which was recommended by teachers on my school's intranet, and started doing exercises everyday.
Summer 2014
As I planned, I went to high school in a bigger town, and met new people. I made a friend one year older than me who was my model in many ways. He understood fluent English and was a real fan of the show Sherlock, which he watched on the website of the BBC, and I really wanted to understand it too.
2013-2014
I was in middle school. I started being interested in English songs and the Harry Potter world, and I secretly nourished the dream of going to study away from my little town and meet people from other cities and countries. I tried to get better grades in English at school, and spent time alone in my room, trying to sing and understand the lyrics of the songs I liked.
2012
I officially started English classes at primary school, but I didn't care.
